What are some business ideas for stay at home moms?
What are your experiences? How do you get started? What were some business ideas? What is your business if you have one? How hard was it to go back to work after having a baby and how long did it take you? Do you have another job on the side of your business?
Shaun answers:
Hey,
If your like me your tired of wanting to start an online business and never finding anything good. Even when you buy a product there is always a vital key to your success missing.
If you are thinking about promoting a product or creating your own there are some vital steps to take before doing anything.
Pick A Topic
What Topic should you build your product around? We want a topic with Hungry Buyers. This is an Extremely Important Point. If you find a crowd of People who haven’t eaten for 2 Days, do you think you could sell hamburgers to them? All you would need to do is get your Hamburger Stand in front of them and you’d have a Guaranteed Winner. What if your hamburgers really aren’t very good? Guess what, the Crowd is Starving, they would buy anyway. But, you wouldn’t get their next sale. So we of course always Over deliver and make Great Stuff so that people Remember Us and Come Back For More. Then the Second Sale is much easier to get than the first. Let’s look at quick ways to find the Topics that people are already asking for 4.
MARKET RESEARCH.
You simply need to find a market that is hungry for information and one that is spending or has the potential to spend money. If not, you will end up building squeeze pages and finding products to promote/create your own product when there is no market for that product!
Before researching in-depth a market, you first must take note of that markets itself.
And it is here that the first mistake is usually made which brings me onto the first main point of this course. When doing research for a market to begin building a mailing list in,
the first thing I always look for is…
Longevity
Longevity means the length of time a particular situation will be around. In terms of building mailing lists, I like to break it down into 3 main areas of longevity;
1) Short Term/Short Term
By short-term/short-term I simply mean that the market is made up of people with a short-term problem and the market is short-term in itself. A good example of a short
term/short-term market would be when a new product is released to the market. Take the videos games for example. When they are released there is a massive number of people
looking to buy a particular game. Once they bought the game their problem was resolved. Also, the demand for that specific video game will decrease with time. Likewise with any cross sells such as accessories, attachments and so on.
So, the market is mad up of people with a short-term problem in that they want a video game. It is also a very short-term market since the demand for a specific video game and any accessories will DECLINE with time.
2) Short Term/Long Term
By short-term/long-term I mean that the market is made up of people with a short-term problem, once solved they leave the market, but there will always be people interested
in this market.
A good example of a short-term/long-term market would be the health industry. For example, lets take the famous acne industry. A person with acne
will look for a solution to their problem, find the solution and they would not be interested in any other products or services designed for getting rid of acne if the product worked.
There wouldn’t be much else you could cross sell to them either.
BUT, there will always be a market with people looking for acne solutions and that is why I like to call it a long-term market. In summary, a short-term/long-term
market is one where the people who make the market up have a short-term problem who will not be a part of that market in the long-term. The market, on the other hand,
will be around for the long-term.
3) Long Term/Long Term
By long-term/long-term I mean the market is made up of people with a long-term problem and the market itself is also very long-term. A great example of a long
term/long-term market is hobbies and self-improvement.
Take the coin collecting market for example. People within this market are keen coin collectors and usually have been for a very long time and will be for a very long time. So, they have a long-term “problem” and the market is made up of people who will be around for a very long time.
Same with people who are interested in stamp collecting. Their long-term problem is the desire to fill their stamp collecting needs and the market is long-term because
these stamp collectors are likely to be interested in stamp collecting for a very long time.
And the point in doing this is what exactly?
If you stop and ask yourself for a moment the following question – “What market would I prefer to build a list in?” In fact – “What market would you prefer to build a business
in?”
For me, I do not touch anything that is not a long-term/long term market. Why not? Because it is much easier to make money in the long run in a market where there is
long term stability.
Does it make money
You obviously do not want to enter a market where no

James asks…
what are some creative business ideas for stay at home moms?
I am very creative and am right now stuck in an unfulfilling yet cushy government job. I have two kids and desperately want to be home with them. I am very crafty, I sew clothing for my self, kids and friends. I sewed all of my own maternity wear because I refused to wear what was being offered. I also sew drapery, bedding and baby accessories. I also do some paintings for my childrens rooms that I’ve gotten some interest in. My name gets around town and I get work here and there but I fear giving up my cushy job since I’m not sure exactly what direction to go in. I need ideas for what to do with my talents or if it is even worth it.
Shaun answers:
As a stay at home mom who sew’s for extra money I tend to push people in that direction who want to make extra money too.
On our family home page http://www.Eazycash.ws I have a stay at home moms ideas for making money- Nothing spamy or any thing for sale its just some of my ideas.
Depending on the time you have, you might consider:
Craft Shows
Consignment in a local store
EBay
Starting a website
Contacting local businesses – IE day cares in your area and ask them if you can put some flyer’s in their lobby for free.
Donut Shop- I know it sounds crazy but every donut shop I have been in has a bulletin board for local businesses.
Depending on the zoning in your area- put a sign up in your yard that you do sewing and murals ( we are not allowed to do that in our area and its a big fine if you do, so check first)
Its really hard quiting your job to go out on your own. I worked for a large company as a corporate trainer before having the twins. Going back after was just not an option with the cost of daycare times 2 so I started selling on eBay.
I like eBay, its low risk – only the cost of a listing and you do not have to list any more items than you want to. When things are stressful at work or home you don’t have to list any, but when you need extra money you can list a bunch.
Hope this helps- Take care!

Mandy asks…
Is this a good business idea for stay at home mom’s?
I’m wondering if you think hiring 2 people to help with running a daycare would be a good idea. according to licensing standards that would mean 2 (depending upon age I guess) kids per daycare provider … so 3 in total would be 6 kids at roughly $900/mo … would there be much profit there with having to buy supplies and paying the other providers? What would you pay the providers?
I am working at a daycare with my baby now and absolutely love it!
Shaun answers:
That would be a great idea.
Id advise you to sit down with a pad and paper, claculate your profit and what you would spend a month including suppiles and wages – then make a decision on whether its worth it.
Good Luck!

stay at home mom with a business idea?
when my daughter was born i made all of her food for her(very occasionally ate store bought baby food). anyhow, everyone i knew used to tell me how they would love to do that or wished they had been able to do that for their kids. i thought it was pretty easy, i mean i worked when my daughter was first born and actually didnt stop working until she was about 2 but they all said the same thing, no time! so ive been looking for a job for a bit now without any success and have been thinking about offering this to new families. i would do it in my home but have absolutely no issue doing it in the families home if they have safety/cleanliness concerns. i would deliver it, etc ready to go in the freezer or already frozen and in individual servings blah blah blah. i am very aware of allergy situations, i am also a licensed nurse so i would address that very specifically with each family and also would NOT be doing this as a “nurse”, too many liabilities involved if i market myself that way. i guess my question is would you guys trust someone to make homemade baby food for you? to me it sounds like a good idea i mean people buy their own meals premade and stuff and there are also catering services, etc i just dont know if new moms/dads would go for it…what do u think?
Shaun answers:
Be sure to check your local laws. In our city if you want to prepare and sell food you would need to get a food handler’s license (annual fee), which also means your kitchen and food storage areas will need to pass upfront and annual inspections.

Steven asks…
Could some one help me come up with ideas for a work at home mom business (can’t do a daycare)?
My husband and I are at the place where we seriously need more income. I really want to stay as a stay at home mom, so I am trying to think of ideas for some sort of stay at home work. I have researched on the internet for places hiring and all I’ve found are scams. The only work at home job I can think of on the top of my head is a daycare, and I really don’t want to do a day care-I also don’t believe our tiny one bedroom apartment would pass inspection. What do you do for money to help supplement your husbands income? We have savings from before our son was born, but it’s slowly dwindling. We are currently paying rent on one place and paying for construction and making payments on our property-pretty soon our expenses will drop, but I doubt our savings will last until we finish our house and drop paying rent and all the building expenses. What do you do to make money when money’s super tight?
